Annie Parker

DESIGNER I

Annie Parker is a Designer and Planner at PORT, where she works across city planning and landscape architecture projects. Her passion lies in spaces of memory, justice, and repair, as she learns to use design as a tool to confront inequities from unequal access to green spaces to systemic racism.

Research-oriented, she brings extensive experience from the public sector in city planning, working in data-driven policy analysis and in technical writing for affordable housing and transportation improvements across scales of government from local to state level.  She also contributed to the mission of designing to heal at MASS Design Group over two years during her studies. There, she developed drawings and 3D models for memorial projects honoring Black history, researched closed-loop ecological design strategies, and produced concept designs for projects across the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa. Deeply influenced by the accompaniment model of practice, she focuses on community engagement and client relationships as the core of her design process.

Annie earned dual master’s degrees in Landscape Architecture and City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded the McHarg Center Dual-degree scholarship, the Sellers Summer Fellowship, and the faculty award for Regional Planning. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. In addition to her work at PORT, she leads the design process of the Legacy of 87 Adams project, recently awarded $1 million from the Mellon Foundation, which seeks to memorialize the thousands of enslaved people bought and sold outside the Memphis church where she grew up.
